Introduction: This study was conducted to provide Intensive Care Units and Emergency Departments with a set of practical procedures (check-lists) for managing critically-ill adult patients in order to avoid complications during intra-hospital transport (IHT).

BACKGROUND: Despite the frequency of intrahospital transport of critically ill patients, little research has been done on this topic and the findings are contradictory. OBJECTIVES: To describe arterial oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry, heart rate, heart rhythm, and systolic blood pressure and equipment problems in critically ill, mechanically ventilated adults during intrahospital transport.

1-9 While the percentage varies widely depending on the type of adverse event described, the incidence of such events occurring during transport or within the first 24 hours after transport may approach 68%. 1-9 Furthermore, the incidence of 2020-01-01 · Moreover, critically ill patients may be more vulnerable to iatrogenic injuries because of the severity and instability of their illness, as well as frequent need of medications and other interventions. 3 Intrahospital transport (IHT), when patients are transferred from one setting to another within the same hospital to undergo diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, is a complex, high-risk Abstract Background Despite the frequency of its occurrence, few Chinese studies examined the status of intrahospital transport (IHT) of critically ill emergency room patients. These transfers are intensive in terms of utilization of personnel and resources. In reviewing the case, reading the available literature, and discussing with colleagues, it became clear that the intrahospital transport of critically ill patients is a topic both with a relative paucity of literature and a low level of awareness among clinicians of multiple specialties.
